PALO ALTO STANFORD AQUATICS at RINCONADA
Our History
Founded as Palo Alto Swim Club (PASC) in 1955 by John Williams, PASC was organized to inspire a community of competitive swimming enthusiasts from Palo Alto. In 1961, the program became known as “Palo Alto Athletic Club” and in 1968, the program returned to its original name, “Palo Alto Swim Club.” Coach John went on to lead the club until his retirement in 1986, when Steve Power took over the program until he relocated in 1992. Coach Steve handed the program over to Tony Batis, who remains as the Head Coach and leader of the organization today.
In 2003, in an unprecedented merger with area clubs, the organization became “Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics.” The original Rinconada site is the third oldest surviving, non-profit USA Swimming club still operational today. Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics is now a family of 6 sites, with nearly 1000 competitive members participating in its programming. Throughout our club history, we have enjoyed a tremendous level of success, including winning a USA Swimming National Championship Team Title, as well as placing swimmers onto various Olympic Swimming Teams from around the world.
